New what?

As the New Year approaches…

If you think ‘it will be better’ in the New Year, you’re wrong.

There’s absolutely no rational reason to expect the pace or pattern of cosmic change to alter simply because it’s subsequent to a man-made Gregorian moment that does not mark any particular interstellar event; is remarkable only in its insignificance, and fleetingness in the greater macrogalactic scheme of things.

It’s not going to take a New Year to stop smoking; it’ll take tough self-discipline.

It’s not going to take a New Year to get a better job; it’ll take guts and persistence.

It’s not going to take a New Year to heal the world. Shit is gonna happen the way shit has always happened:
In a high-density extrusion steam!

As humankind celebrates, they gather in groups, and become silly. And many then consume alcohol (etc.) and become even more silly. Then, when they realise ‘everybody is doing it’, they become Übersilly.

But as the day dawns on the first day of the new Gregorian year, many lives will indeed be changed forever.

Some people will wake-up alone after a silly he-said-she-said who-flirted-with-whom break-up that was far too public to retrieve.

Some will be awoken by the telephone; a loved one arrested for drunk driving, or lying in a morgue.

Some will spend days searching for a beloved pet traumatised by fireworks.

Some will wake and take a while to establish exactly where (and how far into the New Year) they actually are. And WHO is this person next to me!!???

So as you go out to celebrate absolutely nothing, just remember it as that. And THINK.
